While a few years ago there were only a few of these machines in the whole country, grinding has become a business for a number of ski shops all over the country that are now offering grinding as service.

Stone grinding in conjunction with good ski maintenance increases the longevity of skis. The bases of new skis are increasing flatter and smoother than they were in the past. But even then, these skis will be faster if you have them ground with an appropriate grind to your local snow conditions.
Stone grinding can restore a ski base surface when damaged from normal use, scratches, and overheating from an iron. Repeated application of cold wax that needs to be applied with a very hot iron will over time seal the base of the ski. Our cold snow is abrasive and will wear the high pressure contact points of the ski.
Stone grinding is the process of flattening, polishing, structuring and cleaning a ski base in order to make skis glide faster. The use of stone grinding techniques will result in a flat base with a fresh, open ptex base surface for good wax absorption, and a permanently structured base suited to the snow conditions.
